Male Infertility Linked to Low Omega

Child Backpacks Cause Lumbar Spine Problems
Kids carry packs of 10% to 22% of their own body in pounds. It
has been found that this can lead to asymmetry and problems
with discs and curvature of the spine. Back pain in childhood
correlates with an 88% risk of pain as an adult.

Green Tea Cuts Lung Cancer Risk
People who drink even one cup of green tea had five times lower
rates of lung cancer than those who do not. Even in those who smoked,
lung cancer rates improved significantly. Green tea is a powerful
methylator - which helps cancer genes shut off.

Testosterone to Keep Men Hale and
Hearty
Study of 3600 men showed that men with total low testosterone
levels were more likely to be frail. These men may have more
chronic fatigue, difficulty climbing a flight of stairs, difficulty
walking more than one block, more than five major medical conditions
or an unintentional loss of more than 5% of body bulk over several
years. Low testosterone is also linked to depression in other
research.

The Fight for Natural Medicine Continues....

Dr.
Peter Goes to Albany
Almost half of New York residents say they are in less than very good
health, according to a national study. "At every education level
and in every racial or ethnic group, adults in New York are not as
healthy as they could be," the study concluded (1). New Yorkers
rank 31st out of 50 states.
There is no question that naturopathic medical care is useful and
warranted in our state. In the 16 states where naturopathic medicine
is licensed and covered by insurance, patients get to enjoy the
benefits of expert preventive and integrative medicine, which can
help lower costs for everyone, as well as keep people healthier.
Connecticut licensed naturopathic physicians in 1922. So why isn't
New York licensed?
As Vice president, Dr. Peter visited Albany again, with the NYANP (the New
York Association of Naturopathic Physicians), a cadre of naturopathic
doctors, students and patients on May 5th to find out what is going
on: it seems that there are about 80 legislators from both sides of
the aisle who currently sponsor the bill - this is quite a feat for
the NYANP - a group without a powerful, highly paid lobbying firm.
The greatest opposition to naturopathic licensing is the Medical
Society of the State of New York, who prefer not to see naturopathic
doctors use natural medicines in New York State. There is one more
health committee that must be traversed - this committee is headed by
Deborah Glick (District 66 in
Manhattan). At this point, a number of lawmakers are still afraid
to stand up to the powerful medical lobby - but they will change
their mind and support us if enough New Yorkers tell them it is
important. Please feel free to contact Deborah
Glick's office and let her know that you believe naturopathic
medicine should be licensed. The bill numbers to reference are S1930
and A1370 .
Although hopeful, right now these are each still just a bill.
YOUR HELP IS CRUCIAL: With your help we can overcome the
obstacles, as 16 other states have done to manifest the vision of
true integrative healthcare in New York. Please write to Deborah
Glick and find your state senator and assemblyperson
and contact them today too.
Tell them you would like to see the above bills for naturopathic
medicine pass. It's free and easy to contact them, and you will be
helping radically and postively change healthcare in New York state.
thank you.

Poached
Salmon Lettuce Wraps With Apricot Dipping Sauces
(4 servings)
Ingredients:
1 lb wild salmon
1 1/4 cups orange juice
1 1/4 cups vegetable broth, low sodium
1 lime, zest and juice
1 TBS while peppercorns
2 sprigs fresh mint
1 sprig fresh dill
dash large grain sea salt and fresh cracked black pepper
1 head boston bibb lettuce
1/2 cup cucumber, sliced
1/2 cup orange bell pepper, sliced
1/2 cup snow peas, sliced
1/4 cup slivered almonds
Apricot Dipping Sauce
1/2 cup pure apricot spread (no sugar added)
1/4 cup rice vinegar
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
pinch fresh cracked red pepper
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
Start by heating a deep skillet over medium. Add in poaching liquid,
orange juice and vegetable broth along with the zest and juice of one
lime, peppercorns, mint and dill. Cover and let simmer for at least 5
minutes.
In the meantime, season your wild salmon well with sea salt and fresh
cracked pepper. Place the fish skin side down in the poaching liquid,
cover and let simmer for about 12 minutes (could be longer depending
on the thickness of the fish).
Heat a small saucepan over medium heat and add all of the apricot
dipping sauce ingredients. Let the ingredients melt together become
combined (should take about 2-3 minutes). Pour into a bowl for
dipping.
Once you take the salmon out of the poaching liquid, you can either
put it on a plate and serve it family style or divide it into
individual portions.
How to eat it?! Take your lettuce cup and add a piece of salmon and a
little of any topping you might like, drizzle with the apricot
dipping sauce and fold your lettuce around the toppings like a
burrito and dig in!
Commentary:
Salmon is likely one of the healthiest forms of protein you can
choose: it possesses high amounts of unsaturated fats that supply
lipids for a strong and anti-inflammatory immune system, healthy
cholesterol levels, and production quality nervous system cells. And
poaching is one of the healthiest methods to cook: it is a low
temperature cooking technique produces very low levels of advanced
glycation end-products (AGES) and acrylamides, which are both
naturally occurring unhealthy molecules created with cooking that can
increase diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Native to Asia and
Europe, Bibb lettuce is considered somewhere in between butterhead
and iceberg lettuce varieties, Bibb lettuce is low in calories, while
still conveying reasonable amounts of vitamin A, folic acid and
vitamin C. Lettuce is also a source of choline, a nutrient akin
to B-complex vitamins which is needed for brain function and lung
function.
